In version 3.22 the web interface has been changed significantly. The tabs are nice, but there are some features that we were using in older versions for customers that are now broken:
The dashboard is no longer present. This provided good status information on the system to help troubleshoot with end users.
Snooper - we used to be able to use the snooper function for scanning wireless networks from a client. This was not in the buttons menu, but could be run by passing commands in url and it worked. We used it to help customers isolate RF problems. New version does not work. If it could be a menu option that works…
Enhancement:
Can you add a page for port forwarding. This is a basic function that almost everyone needs, even in the most simple configuration, when NAT is turned on.
Add support for station-psuedobridge as an option in the mode list
Add support for 5 and 10 MHz channel width selection in band list
Other than this, the new web interface is very nice. We find that it is a good level of configure-ability and control for end users.
this is just a transitional phase until the new web interface is ready. we will try to address your current problems, but the new interface will be drastically different and will provide much more options. it won’t be ready for many months though.
Thank you. We understand that the current web interface is transitional. It is actually very useful as it is and is a good compromise between giving the user a complete, and complex interface, and one that is simple to use. We generally tell users to use the web interface for basic set up, and if they need more, then point them to winbox.
By fixing the snooper and dashboard functions and adding port forwarding to the current interface, you would have 99% of what a basic end user would need in a router appliance.
In looking over 3.23 there was no change to the web interface. Is there any intention to address the issues we found in the web interface or should we be working on building our own API client. We really don’t want to spend the resources if you are going to fix this soon.
As noted, the fixes we are looking for would return the functionality of webbox to what it was before your upgrade to the new look, and add the one critical feature missing of port forwarding. With these fixes in place, there would be no need for any further development to the web interface in our opinion. If someone needed more functionality than that, they would use winbox.
