Have been using webfig to slowly get things set up the way I need — works great! (I’m not using Winbox b/c I don’t want to install Rosetta on my M2 Mac) So I created a new user for myself with all the permissions, and left “admin” as a backup in case I ever need it … both have strong passwords, and FWIW I never intend to access the config remotely. It’s all firewall out correctly per the default rules. Anyway. When I visited the bookmarked page (http://192.168.88.1/) the user name field would be pre-filled with “my” user. But after adding a private root certificate and generating a self-signed cert for webfig I switched to https and disabled http. Works great! However … ever since then the username has defaulted to “admin” and I can’t figure out how to change that.
Any hints? TIA.
Not sure anymore where I read it but I believe it’s somewhere hardcoded in the webfig pages.
Even on a device where there is NO admin user with that name (first thing I always do, delete user “admin” after creating my own), it still will show “admin” prefilled which is also pretty inefficient.
Maybe having “my” user pre-filled was a false memory? Completely possible but I really don’t think so. My first investigation was to look at browser features, but I tried with a different browser and still had no luck after logging in.
Thanks for the input. I’ll keep digging.
This is such an annoying problem for those that use webfig & created another username. There is no reason why admin would be hardcoded & profiled in the login page, this looks like sloppy implementation & also insecure. Has anyone figured out a workaround ?
PS: I have created a support ticket, though I don’t have high hopes…
