Here is my setup (feedback welcome I have no clue if this is the best setup):
DSL (192.168.0.1)->|Eth0 (192.168.0.101/24) |
|Eth1 (192.168.10.101/24)|->Private Network
|WLAN1 (192.168.1.101/24)|->Bridge/AP pairs->Clients
New Mikrotik AP’s RB133:
Directional Antenna to main <–> |WLAN1 & wds1 ~bridge1~ WLAN2 & wds2| ↔ Omni antenna to clients.
Before the weekend I had 4 sets of bridge/AP radios all connecting back to the main AP (Mikrotik running hotspot). The gear was senao 802.11b gear with one radio configured as a bridge and the other as a AP cabled together with a cross over. Each had an IP 192.168.1.x. and a service binding entry in the hotspot configuration. There was no bridging in this setup. This worked fine. This weekend I started replacing the senoa gear with Mikrotik. I’m still using dual radios so I can have an omni and directional antenna. After planning with the configuration I got the system up with 3 senao pairs and one new Mikrotik. To do so I needed to enable and setup static WDS so now there is a bridge interface in the Main AP’s setup. It’s IP (192.168.1.101) is now bound to the bridge. Here is the problem… this seems to have broken my ability to access the WLAN network gear from the private network. I CAN ping the clients that have authenticated leading me to believe this is a hotspot issue not routing or bridging issue. Destination unreachable is the response to a ping. Using WINBOX on the main AP I can not ping the access points but using the IP scan tool on the bridge1 interface I see all the hardware. At some point this weekend I did delete the hotspot server and re-set it up which may be my issue. Thoughts? I also want to be able to run winbox to get at the remote AP’s in the future.
