what can cause Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! ?

does someone know what can make the router stop working?

is there any way to know ?

RouterBOOT booter 3.18

RouterBoard 411U

CPU frequency: 300 MHz
  Memory size: 32 MiB
    NAND size: 128 MiB

Press any key within 2 seconds to enter setup..

loading kernel from nand... OK
setting up elf image... OK
jumping to kernel code
^Copendir: No such file or directory
opendir: No such file or directory
ERROR: no system package found!
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

Thanks ,

There are many different reasons and you have to diagnose it on a case-by-case basis. In your particular case, it seems safe to say that it is a result of filesystem corruption, or a bad NAND. You will need to re-Netinstall RouterOS, and if that doesn’t work, then you have a bad board (though I’m about 95% confident Netinstall will fix it).

I know the NetInstall will fix fix it , I want to know what is the reason for the crash , so I will be able to avoid it in the future

“ERROR: no system package found!”
The boot process cannot continue because important system files are just missing.

what can cause it go missing?
no one can enter the router (except me) and change\remove packages or something

Thanks,

As Nathan said - most probably filesystem corruption.

but again , what can cause a filesystem corruption?
1-2 examples if you can

Thanks ,

Writing to it during power loss. High power electromagnetic pulse. Are these examples acceptable for you?

high power pulse is seem logic
I’m using a 26V power , so it is possible…

SImple power outage and BOOM! Bad blocks, corrupted files etc.

4 Years later… Still the best little thread I’ve come across. RB2011 ate crap after a POE power outage/spike recently. Seems they don’t like HV/POE issues.
