What dns server should i use?

Hi everyone,

I have a small question.

I currently have a pihole server on my network on my main vlan. My main router also accepts dns queries.

I have a vlan for iot devices, and firewall rules isolating vlans.

What dns server should i use for the iot vlan?

Should I:

A) add a firewall rule and use my pihole dns?

B)use my routers’ dns?

C)use a free dns like 1.1.1.1?

D)doesn’t matter, do whatever is easier

The iot devices are some light bulbs, dvr recorder and a watering system.

What dns servers are you guys using for iot and guest networks?

Each time the router... So the router decides which DNS to query to resolve requests from other devices.

If you need to change something, you only change it in the router, avoiding having to go around all the devices...

Then the router queries the pihole (that directly query 1.1.1.1).

However, if you want statistics for each individual device, then each device (perhaps not with a fixed IP, but via DHCP and static lease) queries the pihole directly.
