What do you use to obtain statistics of your network?

I’m testing NetFlow Analyzer 5 now…

How do you obtain statistics of your network? Bandwidth consumption in a day, week, month… traffic account for each client (ip)… traffic per port, etc etc etc…

which soft do you use to get this kind of statistics of which soft do you recomend???

i use prtg for simple bandwidth usage and other SNMP values (cpu usage memory..)

its cheap, never fails and has a great interface. it also has nice history features.

it suports netflow but i’ve never messed with it, i also dont think it will give you individual user info, like by ip or mac ect..

i use commtraffic… it’s a sniffer, but i want something more powerfull…

I just use grahing available in MT. It does the job.

is more than a graph what i need… i want a tool to let me know what happens in my network and to make custom reports.
I´m a little paranoid and i don’t want my network to go slow… so i need lot of different reports which let me take right decissions.

i need reports like these:
→ Bandwidth usage in realtime (total and per IP and/or per MAC)
→ Bandwidth usage for a period of time (per hour, per day, per month; total and per IP and/or per MAC)
→ Total data trasfered (in, out & total) per ip, mac, group of ips
→ Used ports (local & remote, per ip or mac) for a period of time
→ Graphical and grid reports

We just use Cacti (SNMP graphs), ntop (bandwidth graphs, stats, and reports), Ethereal (network analyzer), and Nagios (network/service status).

I have a NetEnforcer unit for sale that will do all that, as well as do per-IP/connection/whatever you want bandwidth limiting. rgraves (at) cramerit (dot) com if you’re interested.

NetEnforcer is a unit to use instead of MT… or to use ir with MT¿?

i think i will test ntop with my MT…

by the way… hoy much does a NetEnforcer unit aproximatelly cost ¿?

NetEnforcer is used in addition to the MT - it’s not a router, it just does a great job of monitoring traffic flow through it & limiting things. You can do the limiting/prioritization with MT gear, but the graphs/charts it creates are just incredible.

They’re expensive - several thousand $$ or more, depending on how much traffic they can handle.
