WHat is the Best ethernet interface card

Pls can any body tell what is the best network card to be used with mikrotik from ur own experience. cause i am having a problem of changing network cards at every a couple of days. i am using realtik chipset netwroks cards. pls any recommendation better than these and working fine with mikrotik

I am fairly new to routerOS so I am interested in this also. I know in my linux experience, I have had the best luck with the Intel EtherExpress product line.

Intel server cards are what I use for everything and we’ve never had any problems. They have excellent quality in my opinion.

Intel or 3Com

Hey every body for ur response. well i havenerver tried inte card but surely i will do , but is there any specific series to try it out. also for the 3com i tried them but i had a trouble with them but that a long time ago so i dont remember if i was the problem or the 3com cards. any way i will try them again . again thanks to all of u?

if you just need a NIC that works, you can use Realtek. For performace and stability use Intel, preferably, Gigabit card.

for soho i use DLINK nic i already use it for 1,5 year without probem, i use DLINK because INTEL nic is too expensive in indonesia

Use Intel.
I use cards made by Compaq / HP with the Intel chipset.

Works great !!

DLINK have never build own chipsets - they use Realteks and ViAs chipsets.

Problem: I’m interested in VLAN problems with some NICs mentioned in the manual. I want to make someting like 2 P2P wireless link every link should be bridged with one VLAN of a NIC.

lan1 - MT1 ----p2p-wireless1 ------MT3—linux----i-net
lan2 - MT2 ----p2p-wireless2 —/

On MT3 i have ether1 with vlan1 and vlan2 on this interface. I made bridge between the wireless cards and the vlans, but i’ve got strange problem. Ping passes, trace passes, but there is no trafic (checked with tring to open web pages from lan1). Linux “untag” the vlans correctly. When i changed the MTU of vlan1 and vlan2 to 1496 I think I saw little improvement, but it was for a seconds. Strange is that I logged in IRC, ICQ and Skype, but there were no pages and ftp at all.
Could this be a NIC problem (Gigabit Intel, I’ll write down the chipset later).

I’m running routers with Realtek NICs on the motherboard and 2 Airlink (SIS) nics in the PCI slots, haven’t had any problems.
I set my speeds at 10M and turn off auto negotiation, doesn’t make sense to have 100M feeding a T1 line.

and what is the point of decreasing speed?

Bigger stability. 8139 + Repotec switches make 130 meters on 100 mbits, and 160 meters on 10 mbits (with good cable).

My best experience is a realtek card, they are cheap and work fine.
If one breaks, just put in a new one. Make sure you always have some new ones on the shelve. But, in the last few years, only one or two of ±50 broke down.

For multiple connections on one card, use the Routerboard 44. It’s very nice. Works better than the Dlink 4 port card.

i think u can use 3com , ADMtek , d-link and intel
