What is the diffrence between 450G and 750G boards?

What is the diffrence between 450G and 750G boards? Why is 450G more expensive than 750G.
Thanks for answers

I would like to buy one of them. I need PPoE client to ADSL provider and Gigabit Ethernet switch at the same time (at minimum). I also need static routes and port forwarding. It wolud be nice to have bandwith monitoring shapping per port(or IP address). I need L2TP/IpSec VPN client (to be able to connect to MS ISA server).
450G, 750G or something else?

RB450G has:

  • more RAM
  • better license level
  • serial port
  • metal case
  • voltage monitor
  • microSD card slot

RB750G doesn’t have these things

Thank you for the answer. Is that all? What about the functionality restrictions? Will 750G suffice for my needs (stated above)?

functionality is the same, as the software is the same. license level differences also imply limits on the maximum amount of simultaneously connected pppoe/hotspot users

Thanks. I just need one connection and switching + routing functionality (at the same time).

RB750 will be enough

If I can also ask a question about these two products, since I’m also trying to determine which one to buy…

The newest specs say they are both running at Level4 License

But the 450G is RouterOS3
and the 750G is RouterOS4

If I get the 450G, do I have to pay for the OS upgrade to RouterOS4??
Or is it a free upgrade.

Will both the 450G and the 750G accept RouterOS5?

Thanks!

Upgrades in versions are free. 4.x and 5.x runs on all platforms (except for very old ones - they both certainly run on 450Gs and 750Gs).

Upgrades in license levels are not free. http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:License_levels. The 450G comes with a more expensive L5 license, the 750G has a L4 license. Those numbers have nothing to do with the version number of software running on them.

I must be still missing something?!
The site you referenced say you have to pay…

Licenses and RouterOS upgrades
In regards to RouterOS upgrades, RouterOS can be Licensed with two types of keys, L3/L4, and also L5/L6
The difference between these is that L3 and L4 only allow RouterOS upgrades until the last update of the next version. L5 and L6 however, give you the ability to use one more major version
There are also differences between all License levels (L3-L6) that are unrelated to RouterOS upgrades.

Examples:

If current version is ROS v3, L3 and L4 will work with v3.1, v3.20, v4,1, v4.20 but NOT v5.0 and beyond
If current version is ROS v3, L5 and L6 will work with v3.1, v3.20, v4.1, v4.20 and also v5beta1 but NOT v6.0 and beyond
If current version would be ROS v4, L5 and L6 will work with v4.1, v4.20, v5.1, v5.20 and also v6beta to v6.99 but NOT v7

As well as this link:

So…
According to the specs the RB450G says it’s running RouterOS v3, Level4 License.
Which would mean that it would only be usable to RouterOS v4.20.

The RB750G says it comes with RouterOS v4, Level4 License
Which would tell me that it would be good until RouterOS v5.20

Considering that it seems that RouterOS v5.0rc11 is the newest out there, I would assume that the RB450G is not able to upgrade to that OS without paying.
Where the RB750G would.

I’m not sure this is a big deal?!?..
Just trying to figure out which would better suite our needs.
If the 450G costs more and then requires additional $ for upgrading… it might be better to just go with the 750G and deal with no having a Serial Port

Thanks for you help!!

Sorry!!

I see the Website actually is more updated than their Q1-Q2 2011 Product Catalog!
That is where I was reading the board specs from

The website says that the 450G is Level5 License, but doesnt say that OS
http://routerboard.com/pricelist.php?showProduct=52

But with a Level that high, it would allow the 450G to access OS5 without paying.

So it’s all good

Thanks again!

You are wrong. All RouterBOARDs are always shipped with the latest RouterOS version, so there is no need to compare them.

Good to know!

It would be helpful for first time buyers to know that…
Not sure why they’d advertise the older OS’s if that wasn’t the truth… or at least update their literature.

Where’s a good place to buy from then?
Because the place I found them also is showing them as the older OS.
Makes me wonder how long they have been on the shelf then.

“showing” where? in the brochure? brochures are updated once in 6 months or so.

list of sellers is here:

:open_mouth:
Just asking questions…
First time buying and wanting to know more information before purchasing.
Short of talking with FlyTec Computers and MikroTic, all one has to go by is what is shown on their Web Sites.
I don’t really know how often their material is updated… and didn’t know that the Q1-Q2 2011 Product Catalog, good till the end of June, is considered outdated after only 3 months.

Even FlyTec Computers is listing the 450G as Level4 License and OS3.x
http://www.flyteccomputers.com/details.cfm?wid=22&wb=RB/450G

Thanks again for your help!
I’ll contact MikroTik tomorrow and get more details.

I don’t see a RouterOS version in the RB750G page of the brochure

Also nothing on the RB450G page:
