What LTE modules can I use?

Hello everyone.

So I know that my question is extremely basic, but still.

I’ve got Mikrotik RBM33G and Quectel EC25 miniPCIe. The latter works just okay via PPP (I know I can theoreticaly use ECM, but due to various reasons I would like not to do it). It appears that RouterOS just does not give me any other options, there’s no support of, for instance, MBIM or QMI. Still, though I would like to use something except for PPP. Are there any proprietary protocols among other module vendors (like Huawei for example as I don’t want to buy modules from MikroTik or Sierra, which are expensive) that are supported by RouterOS?

I’m extremely new to the sphere, so sorry if I’m asking smth really easy.

Thanks in advance.

You can use LTE with the EC25. See https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Cellular_Quectel_modems_01

MikroTik LTE modules are far cheaper than Sierra Wireless.

I saw this, yes. I meant a bit different thing.

  • LTE (ECM) - support local IP address from modem
  • PPP - support direct IP from the network

Is there a module with a proprietary protocol (with getting direct IP from the network, like in PPP) which is supported by RouterOS currently? I mean I know MBIM will be in ROS7, but I doubt even our grandchildren will get it.
