What real speed can i reach...30mbits+?well reached 31mbits

Hello everyone.
I have a small network with about 110 users behind my linux server.
I have a backbone link with 2 RB333. 1 side is a 50mlw wireless card. other side is 350mlw wireless card.
The link is workingon 5200mhz.
There is clear line of sight on the 5km distance.
No other links around on that frequency.
1 side is 90cm satellite dish and other is 24db. Callifornia antenna.

Current traffik that can pass through the link is 1mb/s (9mbits). It actually connects on 18mbits and holds 9mbits actual traffik.

My Question is if i place another 350mlw wireless card on the place opf the 50mlw…can i double the traffik per second? And how can i reach 30mbits+? Do i have to buy new antennas or Boards?

Thanks in advance.
best regards, Ventsi!

hy

the first step is to put on all sides also in station 1 and 2 the same antenna and also the same transmitted power ( thats important !)
so you can with your setup 90cm antenna on both sides (i think about 35dbi) and 350mw on both sides you can transmit about 30mbit you want …at 5km
on 5 km we transmit with 2 24dbi and 2 50mw about 30 mbit …

for exampel we have 2 30dbi parabol huber and suhner antennas and 2 50mw cards about 18mbits …on 10km - with kabel lengh of 24m
on 5 km we transmit with 2 24dbi and 2 50mw about 30 mbit …

thx mate
i was using 2x RB133/133c with 2x50mlw cards… 500kb/s MAX :frowning:

now i really need more speed so i am going to replace the 50mlw card with 350mlw.
i think that maybe the antennas are not such a problem (or i am wrong:P ) for now.

from other topics that i read here it became clear that the RB333s can handle that pressure 30mbits so i will not change them for now. If i decide to use nstream (this is using 2 antennas on each side right?) do i have to change the RBs?

Is bigger than 350mlw cards going to improve more or i should change smthing else?

thx again.
regards, Ventsi!

i think there is a other problem on your setup …
wich cable and witch lengh of cable do you use . ?
the rb133 i am not shure that the boards can transmit 30mbit on wireless the are not constructed for this …
have you checked the cpu load on 9mbit ? with the rb133 ?

5km with 24 dbi antennas and only 500kb is not possible
our setup on 5km : 2x rb532 and 2x 24dbi planar and 4m aircom plus cable and we transmit 25mbit ..

we use rb532 (399mhz) and rb600 boards the rb532 run on 70% cpu load by 8mbit …with WPA encryption …

i used rb133 before
now rb333

when i used rb133 it was really bad link  100% CPU on 500kb/s one way

ovkiller,
simply upgrading to a card with a higher output power doesn’t necessarily mean that you will get more speed. you haven’t said what your signal levels are. If they are already good, it won’t help as it will just make the signal stronger. I have plenty of links on 63mw cards that can push 10-20mbps of traffic assuming the signal is good.

so if your signal is bad, either use higher gain antennas or more powerful cards. If your signal is good, you have another problem.

Joe

Well…just planted the card
signal levels -50/-49
bandwith test shows 21-24mbits on UDP.

real speed i reach by downloading from 1 server to the other = 1.3mb/s
REALLY NOT ENOUGH.

Changed channels later…almost no effect. any ideas???

clear line of sight…just 5km.
2x RB333
2x350mlw cards
band 5ghz
just 1 other wireless in range (no interference).

…it just can’t be :frowning:

P.S. nstreme and compression tturned on…if it helps
P.S.2: just made tx-power to 21 from default 17 and changed mode to manual-table…almost no effect.

P.S.3: now after all that see what monitoring displays:
status: connected-to-ess
band: 5ghz
frequency: 5200MHz
tx-rate: “48Mbps”
rx-rate: “54Mbps”
ssid: “killer”
bssid: 00:0C:42:18:D8:76
radio-name: “000C4218D876”
signal-strength: -64dBm
tx-signal-strength: -65dBm
noise-floor: -102dBm
signal-to-noise: 38dB
tx-ccq: 92%
rx-ccq: 100%
p-throughput: 28258
overall-tx-ccq: 92%
authenticated-clients: 1
wds-link: no
nstreme: yes
polling: yes
csma-disabled: no
framing-mode: none
routeros-version: “3.0rc13”

when i change channel to 5825 the 56dbm but same speed of traffic…

What radios are you using?
There is a lot more to a radio than the output power on the specs.

Do you have a spectrum analyzer? If not, how do you there is no interference?

Try turning off nstream and compression.

Have you tried testing from RB333 to RB333 using the bandwidth test utility? This will provide full speed, but it may be that you have ethernet problems on one side or the other. This test will help track that down. You should be able to get 20Mbps UDP transfer from one to the other. If so, then you have an ethernet issue (cable, switch, card, etc.)

Travis

He just said bandwidth test shows 20+ megs UDP. Obviously there is another problem that isn’t wireless.

I did not see where he posted that he had tested just from RB to RB.

Also, it appears you are running a RC of the software. Please upgrade to the latest version and test again. MANY changes have been made over the last few months since the version you have now.

Well…just planted the card
signal levels -50/-49
bandwith test shows 21-24mbits on UDP.

yes i did RB to RB bandwith test. it shows 20mbits+. maybe there is a local issue that i will check in a few minutes. i started frequency-usage to check if there are other 5ghz wireless networks and found only 1. i will post the result after the test i am going to make. thx u guys. maybe after that i will upgrade to the new firmware.

btw can i use winbox to connect to RBs when i am not on the machine that is connected directly to the RB??

P.S.:test ready…when i started downloading from 1 PC to other i logged in the RB and pinged the other RB. the replies in ms became bigger (from RB to RB) so i assume it is smthing about the RBs.
As i said before bandwith test shows 20mbits+ but when i start making traffic from PC to PC ping gets 60-70ms and only 1.5mb/s (about 12mbits) traffic passes by.
if u can answer me about the Q with the winbox i will upgrade the firmware (still dont know how with the console  but start looking now  )

thanks in advance
regards Ventsi!

P.S.: Turned off compression and reached 2.5mb/s  thanks allot. And now..is there a way to reach even better speeds (just thinking for the future ) ). I mean do u have any suggestions on what to work on and what to improve .

thanks…Ventsi.

stop net strem and compresion .. the get a more powerfull cpu
to generate more packets .. if u have so ip rules on your router board will and ip fileter will eat cpu speed .. so the speed can be droped because cpu load .. every sitems eats cpu cycles  and u need beter sistem .. i recomand u if u can use computers fo high paket count ..

Well…but CPU load never reaches more than 50%.
I think it means that it is still OK on CPU POWER  or i am wrong?

Regards, Ventsi

P.S.: What if i use turbo mode? I read somwhere in the forum that it will double the speed and lower the signal levels (but now they are 55db).

P.S.: Turbo mode enabled: 31mbits half duplex. Really impressive for me
now…to the point…can i reach more with this hardware
