what to use with a ds3?

We are now servicing our customers with multiple T1s coming into a cisco 2600 series and are planning to upgrade our system to a DS3. We use mikrotik for everything else, we know mikrotik, (but do not have anyone on staff that knows cisco). Is there mikrotik equipment compatible with a DS3? Routerboard 1000 with a DS3 card???

In 2.9X you can use the SBE T3 card.

In 3.x only farsync cards are supported and I dont know if they make a DS3…

I have some alternitives that work on a X86 and the new routerboards (via USB)…

But have yet to get the driverd added…

Hint… Hint… Poke the bear, Poke the bear…

they have a special option for a DS3 card I guess if u email them.

but only with rOS 2.9 afaik.

so maybe sticking with your cisco is the best solution (especially in terms of reliability ), and if you just use it for the “transport” to your mt-box the config is fairly easy. you only have to change the wic.

My advice would be to try to get the telco to deliver the service to you on ethernet. PCI DS3 cards aren’t very common and tend to only be supported by one particular piece of software.

I don’t know of anything with an OSS driver.

Re: just use the cisco as transport to the mikrotik - the problem with that is that there are no DS3 cards for the router he has. To do a DS3 with a Cisco he’ll probably have to buy a 7200 series vxr router - that’s a few thousand bucks on ebay.

for the cisco: ok, didn’t saw it was a 2600. then get a 7200nonVXR, should do the job if you are using a 2600 right now. in a refurbished state it should cost around 400-600 dollar if you want it with a bit better npe and double-pwr. i don’t know what the ds3-card is, but that should not be thousands as a used card.

but nonetheless, getting the provider to hand over the connection as ethernet would be the cheapest solution.
