when we use the wds mode ?

hellow every one
these days im busy with a subject about wds mode
i read the following research http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_distribution_system
something i want to understand it ..lets focus on the following phrase
(A wireless distribution system (WDS) is a system enabling the wireless interconnection of access points in an IEEE 802.11 network. It allows a wireless network to be expanded using multiple access points without the traditional requirement for a wired backbone to link them. The notable advantage of WDS over other solutions is it preserves the MAC addresses of client frames across links between access points )

now lets see carefully the images down/

my questions is
1- Reference to the image 1 . is the person whom in the right side using access point with (station&wds)mode to connect with the group in the left side depending on the mac address of his accesspoint ?
2- can we say that that person called a ( slave) and the grop called a ( master) ?
3- is the wds mode concept = the repeater mode concept ( Reference to the image 2 )
4- Reference to the image 3 .. if we use two wireless devices the first is in ap&wds mode ..so is it we obligated to put the second
device in station&wds mode ?
5- is the ap&wds = master while the station&wds= slave ?

with thanks to all my friends..
