Where did all the HDD memory go on the RB750Gr2 routers?????

My scripts for configuring all of our RB750G routers stopped working when I tested on the 6.32.4 Stable Bug Fix image. So just spent a couple of days re-writing them/verification (we have over 2K routers deployed and rapidly growing). I am in the Resources menu just to do a quick check there, and it says I only have 2,742KB of memory left?? WTF? Something has got to be wrong, so I logged into one of my deployed Tiks and check it and it says I have 111MB (128MB total) of HDD memory left!! Then I notice the “new and improved” 750Gr2 routers only have 16MB HDD space. PLEASE tell me Mikrotik you did not try to sneak in a cut costing action and actually drop the memory on these routers by 87.5% ??! When memory prices DROP every 6 months?? The Gr2 should actually have 512MB of memory by now at no extra cost… Maybe someone thought no one could possibly use that much memory (that though process belongs in the 20th century), so maybe a drop to 64MB, but 16MB when the image takes over 10MB???

So, at what level of HDD memory does the performance of the router begin to get impacted? This 2.7MB of memory left is without any load/traffic/clients on it. My Gr1 routers in the field are showing 17MB of HDD memory used…does this mean I can’t deploy 1000’s of Mikrotiks any further?? If this is some new bean-counter decision at Mikrotik, fire his/her butt NOW.

Sorry for the rant, this is my first negative comment toward Mikrotik, but I am completely puzzled why Mikrotik would do this (I can see if this was a 750Gv2 “lite” or “little junior” or some intentional lower performance version and it was advertised as such). Very disappointed…

You are obviously confusing RAM (Memory) with Flash (NAND, HDD space).
Free storage space has nothing to do with load/traffic/clients, just with your stored files.
But yes, you are right. The storage space was reduced to 16MB. Enough to hold the system image and the saved configuration which should actually be enough for a low cost router.
Regarding the RAM, it is 64MB, the same as the previous model, the 750GL, and the processor speed has been increased.
By the way, why do you need bigger storage space?

Hi doc,

I’m not confusing RAM with HDD, but they are both types of memory. I am solely talking about the HDD memory. Depending on how you use and configure these RB750’s, HDD memory IS used. For example, take one of your units and install a purchased SSL certificate and watch what happens to the HDD usage. Again, with the rapid/Moore’s Law memory price drops, why in the world would Mikrotik reduce the existing HDD memory this much?
