which routerboard ?

Hi
I’m newbie in routing and thus in mikrotik routerOS .

I would learn and for do it I want to buy a routerboard. For a beginner which routerboard is much suggest ?

There are a lot of RB’s types and I don’t know where to turn .

Thanks and sorry for the stupid answer

What do you expect from your very first device?

Either MIPS based or multicore PPC based.
Theres a lot of choices but make sure to look at the new models which usually have more ram and faster cpu. PPC based usually does a good job although it depends on what you want to try for example usb, wireless and so on.

some MIPS based routerboards are unstable with certain things.

I am happy with the RB2011.

I have a few of these:

I have some of 2011, 750, GrooveA, Sxt, omnitik, 411 and all are good. But each type is good for different purposes. So again : what do you expect?

Id like to buy my first routerboard. What do you suggest? I have 500/100 connection and I like to max out my speed.

Fer learning, starting, installing at home/office and try many configurations, priorities and something else, the 750/751 or 950/951. Are cheaper and is enough for a house/small office.

For 500/100 is 1100ahx2 minimum. CCR recommended.

How to reset router-board to default?

My isp refuses to give me the login information for my Mikrotik router. he even tried to convince me it was not a router but a wireless access point and also refuses to port forward for me. I cannot change ISP’s because there is no other ones where i live… anyone out there know of a way to reset the username/password or any other way of getting access to my router?? It is Mikrotik 450g router-board

Why such injection to other topic thread? Where is the relevance? Anyway by resetting you will probably loose the Internet connection.

At least you should read manual first.

With support for jarda’s “injection” issue, I would suggest to buy your own 450G, or even a 750gl, mothball the ISPs router, and play around with your own. If you fail, you just plug the original back in. Resetting it will probably allow you access, but you will loose the access passwords for pppoe or other authenticated protocols, if your ISP uses such things.
