Hello everyone,
I am currently running RouterOS x86 version 7.19.6 (stable) with a Level 6 license on an x86 PC with the following specifications:
-
Motherboard: BKHD-B760-8LAN
-
CPU: i5-14600
-
RAM: 16GB DDR5
The system has been operating normally for several months. Recently, I wanted to add two wireless network cards to enable this PC to function as an AP, providing Wi-Fi on both 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands for other devices in the room.
After doing some research, I purchased a WLE900VX 7AA wireless card for testing. The system recognizes the card without any issues, but it only operates in station mode. I can scan for existing Wi-Fi signals, but regardless of how I configure it (I even sought help from two local MikroTik certified support engineers), I cannot get it to broadcast an SSID in ap bridge mode. I believe I have exhausted all possible troubleshooting steps.
Subsequently, I found discussions on the forum stating that the WLE900VX 7AA card can only operate as an AP in the RouterOS v6 system. Therefore, I am posting here to seek clarification from the community and hopefully avoid further waste of time and money on trial and error.
My questions are as follows:
-
Which wireless network cards are actually supported for AP mode on the x86 platform running RouterOS version 7.19.6? Does anyone have confirmed, working models to recommend?
-
If third-party wireless cards are generally not well supported, are MikroTik's own wireless cards – such as the R11e-5HacD and R11e-2HPnD – properly supported and capable of being configured to achieve my goal on an x86 system?
I greatly appreciate any insights, experiences, or advice you can share!
Thank you.
