What are the results of a spectrum scan at the top height? There are too many factors to list that could cause this - what do you know about the site and any neighbouring sites? That may be a start.

Are you using an omni antenna?
The dispersion pattern of an omni looks a bit like a donut, so there’s a huge signal loss directly underneath and on top of it.
What is your TX power?
With TX power set too high, chances are good to completely saturize your client’s WiFi card. This can result in sudden connection drops or inability to connect at all.
