Wifi 4-address mode (station bridge) between wifi-qcom and wifi-mediatek

Hi there,

Does anyone happen to know whether the station-bridge mode is compatible between wifi-qcom and wifi-mediatek devices?

Hypothetically speaking, as long as it's always WiFi/WiFi or wireless/Wireless, it should be the same,
but in reality, MediaTek is not Qualcomm.
And who knows between QCOM (AX) and QCOM-BE?

Well, that's my question.

What I would really love would be a 5x5 grid with both rows and cols labeled wireless, wifi-qcom-ac, wifi-qcom, wifi-qcom-be and wifi-mediatek.

Of course we know that wireless is only compatible with itself. But are the wifi* thongs compatible, even between Qualcomm and Mediatek?

Maybe a kind soul (looking with hopeful eyes) with an ax S could test wifi-qcom and wifi-mediatek compatibility?

So, if I get it right we are here?

That's it. It's just those pesky question marks.

Based on some reading, they should be compatible... I'll probably ask MT directly.

swap mediatek and "-be" in both table to be nice... Probably between Qualcomm ax/be they are compatible like on ac/ax...

(is possible to paste excel table on forum, is not exactly the same, but can be easy modified...)

CLI /wireless /wifi
.npk wireless wifi-qcom-ac wifi-qcom (ax) wifi-qcom-be wifi-mediatek
/wireless wireless :white_check_mark: :cross_mark: :cross_mark: :cross_mark: :cross_mark:
/wifi wifi-qcom-ac :cross_mark: :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark: :red_question_mark:* :red_question_mark:
wifi-qcom (ax) :cross_mark: :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark: :red_question_mark:* :red_question_mark:
wifi-qcom-be :cross_mark: :red_question_mark:* :red_question_mark:* :white_check_mark:* :red_question_mark:
wifi-mediatek :cross_mark: :red_question_mark: :red_question_mark: :red_question_mark: :white_check_mark:*

:red_question_mark:* = probably compatible
:white_check_mark:* = sure?

Now that I think about it, we'll have to see if they've also added bridge mode to the Mediatek, but that's not a given...

I thought that the table was "in order of comparison", wifi-com-be is AFAIK the future and doesn't yet exist.

But order doesn't change the essence.

I am giving as granted that AP<-->station-bridge is and will be assured for exactly same driver, i.e. the left to right, top to bottom diagonal line is a certainty, so the "sure?" should be a definite green checkmark.

I'm usually all for following logic, but knowing the "surprises" that sometimes happen with RouterOS...
It might be that bridge mode doesn't exist between "be" or between "mediatek", so I wouldn't be too sure...

I prefer in brand order... It will probably be much clearer...

Support has spoken: the Qualcomm and Mediatek implementations do this in the same way, and so they should be compatible.

So, everything is cool?

Ma te la sei presa a male??? :open_mouth:

Yeah. I'll still post again if this project goes forward, and I see it working reliably with my own eyes.

But according to this, if there's a problem then that's "only a bug," not an unsupported setup.

I'd still be grateful if someone who has an ax S would test it, but realistically, the answer from support is good enough for me.

No, perchè?
Nahh, why should I have taken it (what?) badly?

I only re-posted "your" table with the "definitive" compatibility (according to support). :slightly_smiling_face:
