WiFi Connection Tx/Rx Rates

Can anyone help me understand why the Tx and Rx rates shown in the WiFi registration table are so different?

I’m investigating a complaint from one of our customers about slow WiFi speeds. This could be completely unrelated but would help our debugging if we could interpret the table.
(Customer solved their problem by rebooting the router…)

Thanks

I’m also interested in the Wifi Data Rates question in general.

However, your issue does not appear to be a Wireless Client/Access Point issue (you have good signal strengths and data rates).

My bet is there is a problem with the local network of the client. Can you get a bandwidth usage analysis for the client during the problem period? What’s the bandwidth subscription cap like for the client?

What’s your overall network capacity and usage like during the problem period?

I doubt your problem is with the client/AP connection.

Hello Bivvy

The rx/tx info doesn’t look terrible to me. The lower levels could be because of reasons like:
Client too far
Client has a weaker antenna

Ideally, you’d want clients no lower than -65dBm.

There are ways of solving connectivity issues like:
More APs at lower transmission power
Disable lower rates
Identify and remove, when possible, sources of interference (microwaves, bluetooth, etc.)
Make sure to respect the channel pattern (1, 6 and 11)

Hope this helps,

From the screenshot it appears that 3 clients have issues - no client should have a data rate of 1Mbps ! a CPE reboot may temporarily fix minimum data rates to 6Mbps but then it may also take a system reset and reapplying your configuration script?

Thanks for the responses - I’ll speak to the customer and then look to turn off some of the lower data rates.
I should have been a bit clearer in my question - I was particularly concerned about the difference in Rx/Tx rates - see lies 2,3 and 4. So why is the Tx rate really good but the Rx rate only 1Mbps?
Thanks

Can you point me in the direction of more resources that explain the 1,6,11 channel pattern?

Just Google “channel pattern reuse” and you’ll see images that show you how to lay out 1, 6 and 11.

I strongly suggest you get a copy of CWNA. It’s worth it’s weight in gold and will show you stuff like that and more!!!
