We have to provide wifi internet to a multy-story building. What APs, Antennas and other devices we need to do it? Building is made of concrete and people have all types of new and old laptops.
We did something like that…
We placed a different AP on each floor, using channels 1, 5 and 9.
Any brand of gateway will do.
Just cable the backbone.
Placing the APs near to the elevator might save you cable…
Of course, every once in a while an AP cease’s to work. As they are cheap, you just replace it and that’s it.
You don’t need to hassle with WDS, or anything like that!
Normally I have used outdoor access points to receive signals from omni-directional antennas. I have also used internal access points to transmit signals to omni-directional antennas fitted on the rooftop. In the case of this building, I will have to place internal access points and omni-directional antennas on each floor? I am not getting it. Can any one explain it plz?
In a multi story building, walls are made with light materials, while roof/floor are made with steel and concrete. That’s why is easy to get to every room in the same floor from an AP, but very difficult to get to a client on a different story.
Easiest way is to put a different AP in each story. That’ll do.
Kindly just clarify this. Will I have to put an omnidirectional antenna (attached to an AP) on each floor to transmit signal to all systems on that floor?
I would use very common APs, no particular brand, nothing expensive.
If you need to balance bandwidth, assign users and passwords and that kind of stuff, just connect every AP to a PC based RouterOS Hotspot, and that’ll do.
Take into account that you won’t be giving roaming to your users, but that should matter. I’m assuming you need something cheap that works well. Nothing fancy!
