Wifi priority

Hi all,

On a board with 2 wifi interfaces ( 2.4 and 5) how can I prioritize in such a way that clients that support 5 ghz go for that network? I use different ssid’s. Client have both but all are connected to the 2.4 ghz.

Thanks

In a controlled environment? (a corporate network)?

I think stations will connect to the band they’re receiving best signal…

You could set an ACL on the 2.4GHz interface setting authentication=no (denying) for the device’s MAC you already know is dual band, and want to connect to the 5GHz.

It’s for home use. I just don’t get it how it works. On 2 laptops I have ac interfaces and by default they go for 2.4 network

So you see both SSIDs from them?

Are you saying if you specify the AC SSID, they instead connect to the 2.4GHz SSID??

Try what I suggested, go to Wireless > Access List tab, and add a New AP Access Rule specifying your laptop WLAN interface MAC for the 2.4GHz interface, with authentication and forwarding unticked.

Thx for the reply

Done. It works.
