straight up beginner here. I recently replaced my TP Link wireless router with a mikrotik hex. Seeing as hex doesnt have wifi capabilities i was wondering if i could keep using the tp-link router purely as an access point and how i would go exactly setting this up.
Sure, get the mac address of the TP Link, decide on the hex what IP you want to give it, then add it manually on the hex via dhcp leases…
Go to your TPLINK put that IP address as a fixed IP address on the TPLink and you will be up and running.
What model of TP LINK ( probably not vlan capable )…
hey, sorry for the late response, i just got around to this.
So mikrotik is working fine, i connected it from eth2 to WAN port on TP link. I can see it was given an IP via winbox table but i cant connect to it anymore. IP scanner finds it aswell on the given ip but im getting no response from the router.
Find the mac address of the TPLink on the hex.
Set the IP to static in the DHCP lease.
Then go to the tplink and ensure it gets a fixed wanip… does it have an access point mode??
