I currently have a network composed of MikroTik LTE18 as the ISP modem and WiFi router and a cable connected hAP ac² acting as a second access point at the other end of the house. The network is set up using CAPsMAN as instructed on the MikroTik video https://youtu.be/taQ70m0DVYA?si=SCwZwGlprZiIczw7.
Now I need to provide an Ethernet connection for a Ethernet only device (heating boiler) in a room where there is WiFi signal from the network, but it is not possible to root a cable to. A further extension of the WiFi network is NOT a must, but welcome.
Could you please suggest a hardware solution and how to configure it to the existing network.
Why capsman with only 1 or 2 wifi devices ??
A bit of overkill, if you ask me …
Which LTE18 device are you referring to ?
Anyhow, outline steps (assuming connection via Wifi is to AC2):
a simple mAP Lite (or any other wifi capable MT device using legacy wifi. Don’t try this with wifiwave2 devices since it will not work with AC2 as AP)
Added plus for that little bugger: it has a magnet on the back so you can just attach it to any metal surface.
remove interface list WAN and add all interfaces to LAN (this makes sure you can get in using ethernet connection)
remove DHCP server from bridge
remove DHCP client from ethernet 1
add ethernet to the bridge
connect wifi to your existing wifi network, set wifi interface to Station-bridge mode
ethernet interface from your heating boiler will get a DHCP lease from your existing network.
Thank you for your suggestion, I will study it in more detail and let you know how it goes.
It is a LMT LTE18, provided by the LMT who is the local ISP. It is the predecessor to the model currently on MT web site.
CAPsMAN was suggested by MT on their tutorial video. After having spent hours fiddling with DIY networks in the past, the set up once and plug and play after was appealing to me.
Unfortunately my knowledge is not sufficient to follow your instructions. I also tried a post you suggested on another thred http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/map-lite-setup-problem/158397/1 which did not work as after step 2 the mAP lite rebooted, but did not show up on router’s DHCP Leases list and was no longer accessable. It needed a reboot.
Any chance you have the time to provide more detail to your instructions?
Consider using a MikroTik hAP ac³ with a built-in PoE-out port as a wireless bridge for the Ethernet-only device, configuring it as a station and connecting it to the existing network via WiFi.
