Anyone please help me?
My winbox is showing DIFFERENT MAC ADDRESS than the actual (printed) mac address of my hex S (RB760iGS) router.
XX:XX:34:4E:4B:C0 is my actual mac address. However if I try to connect from winbox with this address, winbox would say “ERROR. could not connect”.
Instead, winbox is showing a different mac address to connect to in the NEIGHBORS field. The difference is only of the number at the end of the mac address.
Winbox shows, XX:XX:34:4E:4B:C2
When I clicked on it, it would connect succesfully, and then after entering router page, in the QUICK SET, I can easily see that the mac address is stated is already correct as per my mac address that is printed on the box (C0).
This does not happen in the beginning when I first tried winbox. This happened after I reset some configuration.
Does it have any relation with the router having multiple mac address? On the box there is a printing that says E01 with a mac address (C0), and E06 with another mac address (C5)…
How do I correct this?
Printed MAC is the MAC of interface usually described as Internet and the second MAC is the lowest MAC of interfaces designated to be LAN interfaces.
If you configure bridge for a group of interfaces then it receives administrative MAC as the lowest MAC of all included interfaces until you set it manually.
As setting interfaces to be LAN or WAN ones is up to you therefore the MAC you see in Winbox could differ from the one is printed on a case.
Did you mean depending on which port I connected my PC cable to the router’s, that would define the mac address that is being read by winbox?
Therefore 5 ports on my router would each give me different mac address at winbox?
A. Use “Post reply” instead of quoting whole previous post. No need to cite it.
B. If an interface is part of any bridge then it “losts” it’s MAC. It becomes “dumb” connector of a bridge and a bridge takes over its MAC and presents itself with the lowest MAC of all interfaces it consists of. If inteface is not a part of any bridge then it presents it’s own MAC to Winbox
