Winbox Disconnects in Vista / Win7

This is driving me crazy. We use MT units all over our WISP network, over 300 in use now. We contstantly use Winbox and our service techs are running Windows Vista Business. A few weeks back on tech reported that he could no longer use winbox for more that about a minute. It then disconnects. We can use the same version of Winbox on another PC and it works fine. We see the same issue at times with RDP and other remote access methods. The Windows XP workstations have no issue whatsoever. We even experimented with Windows 7 and the same issue persists. The odd thing is if the MT unit exists on our same network segment (where we do not require a hop) we do not get disconnected. Its only when we are routing across something and accessing a router in a different sub net do we get disconnected.

What we have tried:

  1. Using the same physical network drop a XP system works fine. Move the same CAT5 connection over to a Vista or Win7 PC and the disconnects happen.
  2. Ran all updates on the Vista PC and Win 7 PC same issue.
  3. Disabled / uninstalled all firewall software.. same issue.
  4. Disabled all Anti Virus software.. same issue
  5. Attempted most of the netsh interface fixes people post on vista including the odd MTU size (verified we are set to 1500)

Is anyone seeing this? ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Right now our techs have to remote access a 2003 server in order to run Winbox without disconnects.

Thank you in advance.

I’m using Win7 64bit Ultimate edition with winbox and have seen zero issues. I’ve used winbox for connecting both local and routers over VPN connections.

Yes and no for me using Win7 64bit.
Winbox seems to eventually ‘time out’, but more after an hour or so (no testing here), but certainly not just a minute. No matter if it’s 1 or 7 hops away. I must say that my Win7 firewall is disabled as I have a nice MT box as a firewall.
Ekkas

also zero issues for me on Win7 64bit
