Hi guys,
I have a doubt about winbox mac based connection works.
What’s the process that winbox perform to establish a “TCP/MAC” connection with device ?
Anyone can give more details about it ?

Winbox is a PC based application, so if your Mac is Intel based you could install a dual-booting copy of Windows XP!! ![]()
Otherwise use Winbox from a PC or use the CLI from a Telnet session on your Mac. Personally I wouldn’t recommend using Webbox as I found this tended to trash various settings.

Oh, my…
My English is so bad ??? @_@
I’m speaking about Mac Address (Media Access Control) and not of MacOs (Operation system developed by Apple)
That’s the problem with TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms), you need to know the context to make sense of them!
I guess Winbox sends out some kind of Broadcast on the local network broadcast address and is then able to recognise from the responses which devices are running RouterOS.
The way to prove it is to run Ethereal on the PC you are using Winbox, then you’ll see all the low level network communications.

Mac winbox connection uses port 20561. Connection to the router with mac-telnet/mac-winbox is enabled in /tool mac-server, on a per interface basis, on the router.
Disable mac-server on a specific interface, to avoid connection attempts.
If mac-server is enabled, the router can be discovered by neighbour viewer and by winbox.
Then a connection on 20561 port begins, if you wish to do so.
the connection is made at ethernet level (that’s why it’s called MAC level communication), so there can be no question about ports or IP connection. So that your windows can send data, it encapsulates it in UDP packets, but router receives them at hardware level. This is why connection can be made without any IP addresses or configuration. I hope I’m making sense ![]()
is there winbox for pocketpc
… it will be nice if i can use it on iPAQ ![]()
no
is it in any development plan or ?
not really, but you do have SSH clients and VNC clients on PocketPC

Here we use PTvnc to a remote machine from the PPC. But would be interested in your app…
not for public use …

note : my message is not for public reading please .
Read what? ![]()
yes, you can use the API to make your own PocketPC/Palm applications that control RouterOS just as winbox does
if we put it public we have to translate it to English, it’s on Serbian …
It suits me, I speak Serbian ![]()
