Winbox not Saving Sessions

Winbox isnt saving its settings in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Mikrotik\Winbox.

Winbox is also saving the .dll’s it downloads in the %USERPROFILE%\Download folder, not the %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Mikrotik\Winbox\ folder.

I tried deleting the Mikrotik folder to see if it would re-create it, it didnt.

Saving sessions doesnt persist when closing and re-opening Winbox

I tried moving the winbox.exe to the %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Mikrotik\Winbox\ folder.

Is there a way to fix this?

The settings in that folder are just the username and password. Window placement, etc, is saved on the mikrotik.

I had the same problem since last update of Windows 10 - moving Winbox.exe from C:\Program Files (x86)\Winbox to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Mikrotik\Winbox\ folder actually solved the problem for me. It also worked when I launched Winbox as an administrator (which is not the same as launching it as a user with administrator privileges), but of course, that’s not the right way.

And no - the settings is not saved on mikrotik device itself - it’s saved in .viw files under %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Mikrotik\Winbox\sessions folder. Try to connect to the same device to a different address and it starts new blank session.

A “very good” {windows only} app".

Simply delete “%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Mikrotik” folder and open winbox again and then you can use the save button again.

Do not detele folder %appdata%\Mikrotik\Winbox.

Just open the folder %appdata%\Mikrotik\Winbox and there you can see file “sessionpath”. Open that with text editor and edit the path to correct one.
