WinBox v4.1 released!

Settings

Exactly - without activated "inline comment" option there's no comment column to select.

That was it, thank you!

@Winbox Developers: Is it possible to make the "Inline Comments" setting in Winbox individual for the device selection window (where we choose "Select from: Saved / Neighbors / ROMoN Neighbors")? I would like to see inline comments in the device selection window, while keeping comments in the classic style within the device management window. This is exactly how it used to work in the classic Winbox 3.

Also, I would like to see proper behavior for colored icons, including in "Interfaces -> PPP". If an interface has the "Running" status, the "R" flag becomes practically unreadable in the dark theme, while the interface itself gets a red icon. Red icons usually imply that "something is wrong" — like a misconfiguration, a dropped connection, or a complete failure. However, here they are applied to active, working tunnels. I know that it is possible to filter by running=yes and so on, but why should I constantly make these extra steps? Using MikroTik products shouldn't feel like a punishment or constant struggle.

beside having inline comment "per window" (not global) ..I'd like to have also workspaces capable of setting main windows size, with current behaviour we have to set an initial windows size that fit all workspaces/profiles (and connection one as well).

Any chance the title order could be changed to Identity and then username/IP. Makes switching devices on Windows much easier when you can see the identity. As it is, can't tell which is APS002 or APS003

You can use DNS names and they will be immediately after the username.

How to do this? Thanks.

You use this dropdown menu:

I tried all sorts of shortcuts and mouse clicks for so long that I finally found this one.
Thanks.

I hover over "Trusted", becuase I would like to know what this means (Tik moves the wiki. to help. and the help. to manual. and everywhere is a piece of information...). And the explanation is "Boolean"?!?!?!!?!? Of course its boolean, because its a checkbox, on, off, 1, 0... But why do they write no useful explantion?!?!?!?!?

Because the information is coming from RouterOS, not WinBox, attaching an explanation or a URL to every single property item will grow the size of the packages on the router by quite a lot. Think about all those devices with 16MB storage. And of course, RAM / CPU usage on the router will also increase every time the information needs to be fetched and transferred.

Currently these tooltip uses the information from the validation rules attached to each parameter (so that WinBox can show non valid values in red), and the rules are much more compact. Sometime they provide useful information, for example:

(deleted by me} my error

I think the column on your 2nd screenshot is "Advertise MAC Address".

Yes, you are correct ... thank you for correcting me ...

There appears to be a bug that affects both Winbox v4.1 and v3.

Windows throws an error after an attempt to edit the slot name of the mounted SMB share (see the screenshot).

Doing the same in Winbox 4.1 completes the share rename without any error, however it produces some weird artefact in red ink.

Screenshots are attached.
Any thoughts on what may be the cause of the issue?
Thanks

[edit]
I have ran some more tests:
Apparently Winbox 4.1 throws the same error. The weird part is that in some cases winbox does allow the slot to be renamed, and sometimes (more often than not) it doesn't. The mounted share is not accessed by any device, expect perhaps RouterOS itself.

[edit2]
P.S. Disabling SMB share first before renaming the slot appears to work, so I guess this solves the issue.
Renaming active slots of the locally attached partitions works 100% of the time (tested with M.2 storage, and SD card).

The design of the new Winbox 4.x version and the way the options are ''compacted'' are not intuitive to use! All that gray background blends in, the fonts are kind of strange, etc. I really don't like it and so do my colleagues. If we read the forums, then for many this ''new'' Winbox discourages the desire to use this product in the future. Of course, everything is moving forward, everything is developing and that's just normal, but the Mikrotik team - change the designer who built such an opaque interface!

The design and layout of the Winbox version 3.x is simply perfect and please think about it.

Gone are the days of development of products like Firefox or Thunderbird where you could apply a "skin" to a program that could completely re-colorize (and even re-style) the UI. Even Windows had that.

Now we all have to live with a bland gray-on-gray UI or the hype of the day: "dark mode", which normally means that half of the text becomes unreadable.

This cannot be fully blamed on the MikroTik team, it is also limited by what a UI toolkit can still do. All programs, all apps, are going down this same path.

You can still theme firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/themes/

I said "Gone are the days of development". The product still exists, for now. But undoubtedly a new version will drop that capability "because too difficult to maintain".
