WinBox / WinBox loader features request.

I would like to see following features in WinBox:

  • Config file should store passwords in non-readable/searchable format.
  • Reconnect on disconnect. Which can be automatic like RDP (try 20 times), or it can ask if you wish to reconnect…
  • Possibility to log in to multiple devices without starting WinBox multiple times or log in from one router’s Winbox to a list of other Mikrotik devices
  • Arrange windows within WinBox
  • Shortcut for switching between windows in WinBox

Some of these are really simply to implement so I doubt if I don’t know about them or nobody else miss these features.

Do I read “login multiple devices” is a request for sort of a “tabbed” winbox?
If so, I can highly recommend mRemoteNG.
Initially built for “tabbed” puTTY and RDP client, you can literally implement ANY tool (including Winbox) in its tabbed GUI - and pass all login iformation to oit when needed.
I’ve spent almost one day to get all our infrastucture into it but now I have the ability to connect to each and every device by either RDP, SSH, Telnet, Winbox, Web…
Everything under the hood of one fantastic tool. (Which is free BTW).

Maybe you like to test this. For me, it dramatically cleaned up my desktop.

Cheers

By the way I still think that WinBox is the best management client made so far. I would invite VMware developers to a short course to Latvia to learn a bit

…and I’d love to send the guys from EMC there as well
Oh yes, and the Cisco ASDM team…

Thanks!

I didn’t realized mRemoteNG has an option for external tools so far. I just added WinBox with arguments %Hostname% %Username% %Password% and it works nicely. So with this workaround half of the my feature requests are already done.

Cool, glad to hear.
In the external tools tab, just hit “try to integrate”. I noticed Winbox integration is not working in 100% of the cases, but will in 99%.
The only disadvantage I see in this is the missing Identity in the title bar - wo you should koe pretty well which session controls which host…
