Winbox

Hi,

can winbox be accesed through a series of switches.

cause with this rb433 i have i can find it on winbox and connect to it if it is plugged into a hub bnear me but once i installed it i cant acces it from its wireless side?

It is the AP and there is a station at my office and the rb433 is 9km away and when i go into winbox it finds it but it just says request timed out?

Why is this?

If you’re connecting via IP, you can connect from anywhere (as long as you can route to the destination IP, and no firewall in between is blocking traffic).

If you’re connecting via MAC, you can only connect from the network that the device is on.

Once you have a management IP on the device, it’s usually better to just administrate it via IP regardless of your location.

i have tried using IP address to, but it gives me the same error.

So i need to try and oing the Router board and if that works then it SHOULD work?

If the service is turned on and listening on the port you’re connecting to, and not blocked by firewalls - then yes.

cause i just tried now at home with a rb750 that is plugged into my network and i tried to access it on my laptop through a wireless ap which has no Firewall etc. it finds it but cant connect to it.

Then there’s something wrong with your setup.

Post the configuration of the network as well as the rb750.

does your computer have to be in the same ip address.

so if my pc ip is 192.168.1.30

can i connect to the RB which is 192.168.88.1

Yes, you can - as long as nothing in the way is blocking it.

you can connect using MAC address and feature we call mac-winbox - that is very unstable connection to your router, mostly used to connect and set up ip address, so you are guaranteed by TCP/IP that all the packets go in correct direction and are received.
