Wired Extender Setup

Hello,

Sadly I’m a beginner with networking and RouterOS is a little bit more complex for me.
I have 2x Hap Ac2 routers, one is connected to the internet (used the default defconf setup) and the second one should be a repeater (connected via Ethernet cable). How can I achieve or where can I find the necessary information/tutorial for the following Setup.
1.) #1 Router connected to the Internet, DHCP Server setup.
2.) #2 Router is connected via ethernet cable to #1 Router:

  • how can I set up the second router to work as a switch and to have wireless connection (same SSID with same password)? I don’t wan’t a repeater which just connects to the #1 Router wirelessly , I want to achieve this via ethernet cable.
Internet <------> #1 Router (DHCP Server, Wireless, Switch) <--------> #2 Router (Wireless, Switch)
I think this is a pretty simple setup but I was not able to do this. I managed to do a repeater setup where #2 Router is connected to #1 Router via Wireless, but it’s slow and it’s not what I want.

Thanks in advance,
Robert

By default hap ac2 is configured as a router. So connect the first one with your ISPs router, ether1 of hap ac2.
Reset the second hap ac2 to no configuration, then add all its ports to a bridge and the wifi as well. Dont forget to add an address to the bridge, create a route to the 1st router and add a dns.
Connect any port from the router 1, except the 1st one which we use as our gate, to the second hap with an ethernet cable.
Finally, configure your wifi on both hap devices.

Would a capsman/cap setup work with the ethernet cable too?
Or are there specific settings to consider?

Yes…
Do you know how to setup a capsman manager and then let Caps join?

I read a ton about it, I will try it.

I suppose, the CAPs can also be “chained” toghether(a chain of CAPs with an ethernet cable from one to the next, and only the first is
linked directly to the CAPSMAN, or should I avoid that? Forwarding, performance penalties?

You are missing something… capsman is a centralized access point manager.. you can add as many caps as you want as long as they can communicate with the capsman..

… and caps have to be able to communicate with capsman prior to configuring their wireless interface(s) … which means that most of times caps devices will communicate with capsman over wired connections (this is strictly not required, but I’d say it’s an advanced setup and if you come to it, you’ll already know what to do).

Ofcorse.. i didn’t get into configuration details…
