Wireless antenna-gain on regulatory-domain?

Hello,

Can someone clarify the effects of antenna-gain setting when using regulatory-domain with the proper country set? The antenna gain in the documentation on the 951Ui-2HnD unit says 2.5 dBi but you can only enter whole numbers in this field. Maybe gain is being ignored in this instance?

Thanks in advance,
A.J.

Its my understanding that you can only enter whole numbers into that field. That is true with 6.11 even if it has changed over time.

With the country set and regulatory domain set for the frequency mode the router will use the antenna gain number to keep the EIRP within the country power output regulations. If the 951ui is set to a country that has a 20 dbm maximum EIRP and the antenna gain is set to 0 then the radio transmit power will be 17 dbm and the EIRP will be 17 + 3. It looks like the built-in antenna gain is being rounded up to 3 dbm.

If you don’t need the full legal output you can reduce the power output by setting a higher antenna gain number.

So mode: regulatory-domain; country: united states; gain: 0 will net you max power for your location on routerboards with built in radios/antennas.

Thanks for the clarification,
A.J.
