Hello all!
I’m totally new to Mikrotik, and looking for some help with a pretty basic configuration that is giving me headaches. I’d be thankful for any hints you may provide!
Me and my partner both have DSL lines at home with a standard wireless router with wep encription by default. We can change the password, but not the default settings for these, since they’ve been blocked by the provider.
We have a small bar like 100m from home, where we’d like to have an internet connection. Instead of a new line, we were adviced to buy a RouterBoard and set up a wireless network that’d use our home connection. I’m an advanced PC user, with little network experience, but eager to learn.. I’m finding it hard to set up this network though.
This is the situation right now:
Two WEP wireless networks, with DHCP. HomeW1 and HomeW2.
RouterBoard with three radios and three 8dB antennas that get pretty good reception with the HomeW networks.
A WorkW network with WPA2 settings that we created for work, but that has no DHCP working right now (can’t get it to work, a static ip would be enough though, since ther will usually only be 2 laptops in the bar)…
What we want is very “simple”. We want the router to connect to HomeW1 and HomeW2 and access the internet through one of them (or both balanced at the same time if it’s possible, since they have no use during work hours when WorkW would be active), and to connect to it through WorkW from our laptops to gain access to the internet.
I have tried several bridge examples I found on here, and different IP pools for DHCP, but I don’t seem to be able to connect to the Internet, or even connect to the router in DHCP. I gain access to it and can use Winbox wirelessly through WorkW but not get a proper IP.
It looks to me as if I’m making a very fundamental mistake, something basic I don’t realize, so if someone could just walk me through the basic steps that would be needed to create such a estructure, I’d be very grateful.
Again, all I need is internet access in my Wireless network at work, through our routers at home. We don’t need anything fancy, no hotspots, no special firewall policies or anything.
