DSL>>>>>>RB951G-2HnD>>>>wireless bridge>>>>>>>>>ASUS RT-N56U>>>>>>Ethernet port connected devices (PC with crap wireless card, media streamer, etc)
So baiscally, my RB951G-2HnD router is in AP-BRIDGE mode and serving wireless clients. I want the Asus to connect to the RB951G-2HnD in bridge mode so i can connect devices to ethernet ports and get access to the whole big happy family network…while still allowing wireless cilents to connect to the RB951G-2HnD.
The ASUS RT-N56U are a Router, I not know this particular models, but as all Router of the same type,
do not support connection as client or slave or as repeater (I think because usually the router pretend to receive internet from WAN and distribute over wifi, not vice-versa).
The only Router I know to do that you need, is another MikroTik Router!
Use another RB951G-2HnD and you have near zero problems.
OR put one cable from RB951G-2HnD to WAN port on ASUS Router.
Thanks for the response, however, the Asus router can be set to bridge mode (disabling routing features) with custom firmware. What I am trying to figure out is the best setting on the mikrotik side to allow the connection from the asus router when in bridge mode.
You can set bridge mode from wan to lan and wifi, but are wifi connectable as client on RB wlan?
“Asus router can be set to bridge mode (disabling routing features) with custom firmware”
Have you already done that?
Check if you ALSO can connect wifi TO ANOTHER DEVICE as client.
Yes, I have set to bridged mode, AP-Client setting, but it is not showing a connection on the mikrotik side. As far as your other questions, the wlan1 interface is setup as bridge already and working for clients to connect. I do not have anything else to test with for connecting the asus as a “client”.
I not understand of what device you are writing about:
forget the RouterBoard and the bridge:
Have you set the ASUS WiFi as client for RouterBoard using new firmware?
If you can not use the WiFi of ASUS as client, you can not link the ASUS with RouterBoard on this way.
Yes, that is what I was saying. I setup the asus as Bridge mode - AP-Client only, using the STA SSID of my mikrotik router and using the same channel.
I am assuming that the entry for STA SSID it is looking for a “station” but i have my mikrotik setup as an AP-BRIDGE as that is the only setting that will allow wireless clients to connect. That is what I am trying to figure out…
