Wireless, CAPSMAN, update from pre 7.13

My network is outdated. It was based on RB2011 and two CAP-ACs with a primary network and a guest network. It has been running ROS 7.8. I am updating the RB2011 to RB5009. It has been running CAPSMAN. All the changes made me nervous about upgrading until I fully grasped what was needed to be done. Everything has been running smoothly, except for one wireless device (of about 30 that are connected daily). But I do not have a test environment, so once I start this, my existing system will all be offline

As I am reading about updates, I am a bit confused about the best process.

Am I reading this right? Any tips or comments?

Two things …

you can perfectly keep using legacy wireless with those cap-ac devices.
Al you need to do then is load wireless package on RB5009 (as of ROS 7.13) and you’re good to go (just be aware the menu structure will be on another place. Not wifi but wireless/wifi, or something like that)

If you however want to move forward for wave2 drivers, it’s still a good idea to use previous mentioned approach.
Otherwise you would have to upgrade ALL devices at the same time and I don’t see that happening

This allows you to first setup RB5009 while you still have that RB2011 in place.
Move a couple of APs to that new controller (you can specify IP in AP so they connect to that specific controller).
Once that turns out ok, move them all over.
Decommission RB2011.

Then, setup wave2 capsman environment (other menu structure but quite alike if you used legacy capsman).
Take 1 cap ac.
Upgrade to latest ROS (7.16.2 or … since some claim there are issues with wifi stability, go for 7.14.1)
Remove wireless package
Reboot
Add wifi-qcom-ac package (that’s the one for AC devices, the other one is for AX devices)
Reboot
Reset to CAPs mode (keep users !) and it will connect to RB5009-wave2 capsman part.
test
Add another one.
Rinse and repeat.

That’s how I would do it …

Thank you for the detailed suggestion
