Wireless Cards for routerboards

Hello, just wondering what wireless cards you guys use. Well more importantly which cards have worked best with this system and give you the best range. I live in an area with lots of trees  I have read atheros based cards are really good but would like some input from you guys. We been using Tranzeo 4500’s but would like to start using mikrotik and routerboards for our APs’ instead. Mainly because of all the features and bandwidth management built into the system. Anyway any hints or suggestions on cards would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

We use SR2, SR5, SRC, CM9, SL-2511CD Plus Ext2, SL-5354MP and many more. They all have their place. But my fav. is the SRC, SR2 and SR5.

we use Wistron DCMA-81 (halfsize minipci)

Atheros AR5413 Chipsatz
802,11a/b/g Triband Radio
Atheros Super A/G Modus

works wonderful on rb532(a) also with doughterboard.

I use the (R52) 802.11a+b+g 65 mW Wireless miniPCI Card
and it work like a charm  i have it today on 150 customers CPE units.
I have tested the SENAO 100 mv card called ARIES2 and i working well but its more sensitive to noise compared to the R52 card.

This is from the Mikrotik site :
MikroTik presents our new wireless 802.11a+b+g miniPCI card for multibandhigh speed applications! It can work either on 2.312 - 2.497 or 4.920 - 6.100GHz range.

rickard,
150 online users ? :astonished:

Note, do not use more than two wireless interfaces in RB500, if they are SR cards.

Yes 150 users on lots of RB500 Ap cells  the maximum user per AP is 20 users.

What’s the difference between the R52 and the CM9?

The main diffrent that im found is that the R52 is sensitive compared to the CM9 . And its handeling the Noise verry good.
We are running on 5.4 Ghz with 26 Dbi Grid antenna and the distance is 10 Km with signal -54/-58. and real trafic is ~ 25 mbits.

Thanks Ricard. Can you tell me the price for small volumes? The MT site does not have it.

Sounds good. It may make a very good combination with the new R100 routerboard.

Yes it will be perfect solution. and when i get my own designed antenna that can handel Both 2.4 ghz 19 dbi and 5.4-5-5.8 ghz 24 dbi in the same antenna  , its in development state right now. Then i only have to change the a or b setting on the R52 card.

Were is the spec sheet for the R52 card ? How much does this card cost?

please write to sales or support and we will give you the pdf

I heard that the actual performance of the R52 wasn’t as good as the CM9. Maybe this has been rectified in recent releases but confirmation from Mikrotik on this would be handy.

actually it is the other way around.

Cool. In what way?

the R52 is at least as good as the CM9, in many cases - it is better. Plus it’s cheaper. It uses a newer and more advanced chipset, and when we did the 300Mbit wireless combo link at the MUM-Prague - we came to conclusion that R52 will be better for this kind of test.

What about the Compex WLM54G? Anyone here used these before or have any opinions?

I used it and wouldn’t recommend this card, furthermore I wouldn’t recommend any Compex product. Bad signals, too much noise…

Damn, I just ordered a bunch but haven’t set them up yet! In hindsight I guess it pays to ask first!

Mind you they won’t be used for anything over 3km and will be out in the sticks with no other networks around so hopefully will be OK.
