Wireless Cell Phone internet card And RB230?

Someone asked me if a cell phone company wireless internet card would work in a MT230 board.
Has anyone tried it? I told the it may not since the drivers are windows based.

RouterOS provides support for few GPRS and CDMA EV-DO cards,

We have a RouterBoard 230 and a Verizon Wireless Kyocera KPC-650. We were able to get it to work by adding a PPPoE client interface with the correct information for connecting to the Verizon network.

Our setup works, but it seems to lock-up the board at random intervals. Sometimes it will run for a few days with no problem, other times it will lock up within a few minutes. I can still log into the router using Winbox, but the PPPoE interface seems to be unresponsive. I can try disabling and re-enabling it, but it will still not communicate or re-establish the connection to the Verizon network. Restarting it is the only way to get reconnected.

Anybody else had this experience? I have been troubleshooting the issue for a while and can not figure it out. Both the card and the board I bought new about 3 months ago.

PPPoE for the 1xRTT / EVDO network? I thought you had to use straight async PPP client for those cards? That’s the way we’ve always done it, but maybe its possible both ways. Interesting.

Your right, it is an PPP client connection.

I have come back to this problem many times but still have not made any progress. We have two Verizon KPC-650 cards and both of them seem to have the same problem.

With the RB230 board it will lockup: what happens is we will loose all connectivity to the Internet, login to the board via Winbox, disable the PPP interface, but it will fail, it wont even let me disable the interface. The only way to fix it is to restart the board.

We have also had the cards lockup while using them on some of our Windows laptops. We will have to remove and re-insert the card to get it to work after locking up.

Any body else have these issues?
