Hello.
I keep seeing this all over, even in my town.
So I think we all would benefit from seeing how people are using encription at the current moment. I am talking about links to the clients, NOT backbone links, if there are wireless.
So, here we go:
What type of encription are you constantly using in you links to the CLIENTS ?
Feel free to argue why.

Added “AES-CCM fixed key encryption”
Hope will not change very much the poll results.
Again. This is to see what’s in the real world, or maybe just in the world of the forum users.
i am using wep.
not because its better
not because its not crackable
but because it puts less overhead on the data stream going to the clients
last thing i need is a bottleneck
and because hotspot is basically hackable so i have no choice but to do encryption.
If you are using RouterBOARDS with R52 (atheros chipset) then using WPA/WPA2 does not add any overhead, as all the encryption is done on wireless card hardware.
WPA is a fairly recent addition to RouterOS and it wasn’t that long ago that it was unstable.
RouterOS based networks back then had to either go with RC4 (shudder) or AES-CCM fixed key encryption.
