Wireless frame parity

I was just reading an article that spoke about how some people over at MIT developed a change in TCP to introduce parity into the packets, so that during packet loss the majority of packets would not need to be resent, resulting in increased throughput on lossy wireless links; in some cases an increase from 1mbps to 16mbps. http://www.mit.edu/~medard/papers2011/Modeling%20Network%20Coded%20TCP.pdf

Would this be a feasible approach for hardware wireless frames? Could Mikrotik develop a wireless protocol with parity so that wireless links with less than 5% packet loss would not need to resend data?
