Wireless Interference / Packet loss : Troubleshooting

Hello comrades,

I have been having trouble with a tower of mine disconnecting clients. It will be perfect from weeks on end, then act up twice in one day, or two days in a row - and be fine for a month/week - no discernable pattern except for time of day. It seems to happen only throughout daylight hours; 6am,12noon, 1:30pm, 4pm, 7pm, it is fine 95% of the time.

Location is shared by another WISP that is on 13db H-Pol Whip /w 1watt amp. using Tranzeo

We have V-Pol 17db 120deg Sectors (only one turned on currently) (rb/600 + r52h)

Symptoms:

  • lasting for 30mins-1.5hours
  • sometimes no customers will stay associated (all will disconnect and reconnect at various times throughout effected period)
  • sometimes some customers will stay associated (most will disconnect/reconnect)
  • sometimes all customers will stay associated (none will disconnect/reconnect)
  • will always cause huge packet loss (60% - 90%)
  • unable to ping
  • client signals range from -59db to -80db (all are effected)

    Attempted Fixes:
  • will not improve by switching channels (channels 1-12; all will all have poor performance)(other WISP is on channel 4 - 20mhz - 10ft physical seperation)
  • if interface is disabled, will be good performance for 5-10 secconds during effected period
  • Currently monitoring signal rates/ throughput / uptime - no discernable difference (monitoring with Cacti)
  • Tried switching Radios, no change (was fine for two weeks, saw problem twice today)

Thats all I can think of atm, any comments or suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks,
Josh

first, enable debug logs and see the reason. post here:
