Wireless ISP PtMP 30Km

Hi Everybody
I am living in Cork, Ireland. I want to start a WISP in my City. I want to setup a base station and i want to serve about 30KM in one direction from my main station.

i will be have clear line of sight to my customers.from my base station

Now my question is is mikrotik have any radio device which can cover from the base station up to 30KM on a PtMP?

i can’t setup any more station in the middle. its has to be from one station.

if so what equipment i need to setup in my tower? and also what type of CPE i need give to my customers?

if not possible to 30km then what is the maximum distance i can get client?

and also how many client can connect to the base station?

I don’t mind to spend good money for the base station but my customer CPE need to be not very expensive.

Please help me out

Thanks very much in advance

For 30km radius, the customer CPE will be more expensive than your basestation (more or less)…you will need at least 30dbi dish antenna + radio = ~300$
And for that money you will get an connection with ~ -65dbm in best conditions.

Greeting from Co Limerick!

30Kms - you may have clear line of sight to the potential customers but how about Fresnel zone clearance at that distance, as already mentioned you will need a 30+ dBi gain antenna and that is a dish not a panel which leads to another
question apart from cost, how many will accept a 70cm/1M dish on their premises?

A better plan is to have a repeater to reduce the distance to customers or plan your backhaul from another direction

Connect the best placed customer by ptp link and make there the local Ap for all others around.

what you mean by repeater?
can you please explain briefly?
also from the main station how far i can serve with good speed? so i can stop dreaming about 30KM

and also how many customers can connect with my base station?

what you mean? how to do it?

i can go point to point to my one 25km far customer but the problem is for each area i need to setup more more radio in my main station. i dn’t have much space in my tower. so the base station have to use for multipoint

like from the base station i need to connect at least 10 point and as you make those 10 local AP for others around them. what you mean by that? if you get time can you please briefly explain

Thanx

I meant to place the dislocated secondary Ap at the one of the customers that is closer to others. Then connect the surrounding customers to this second Ap instead having all customers connected directly to the first Ap which is very far.

PTMP (customers to AP) will depend on several factors, like average distance, CCQ and signal level, provided all customers are even, each sector can serve 30-40 clients on a basebox, even more (I’d say about 60 max to keep good performance) per device depending on the radio used.

i can go point to point to my one 25km far customer but the problem is for each area i need to setup more more radio in my main station. i dn’t have much space in my tower. so the base station have to use for multipoint

Setting just one AP in PTMP for downlinking to customer POPs won’t provide you neither the best performance nor speed, and this by pure physics, nothing to do with (single radio) equipment. Why? for the same reasons all customers connecting to a sector should have even signal levels, distance and CCQ, etc I exposed earlier; that will dictate your sector performance.

Due to this is it a basic “good practice” to avoid that but for temporary setups (is it fine while gaining customers for a just installed POP with a handful stations for example).

If you don’t have much space in your tower then you’re starting DOA… May I ask why everything has to go to that tower? Is it yours? Is it rented perharps? Is it by chance an FM tower?

Your business approach is essentially flawed (and rather typical I’m afraid): for any WISP to be successful, technical infraestructure comes first, then you adapt your business strategy on top of it, not the other way around.

I totally agree!

I’m assuming you are planning to use 5Ghz equipment.

I would suggest Groove 52HPn for clients > 10km and SXT Lite 5 for < 10km http://routerboard.com/RBSXT5nDr2
