Wireless Issues only with Mikrotik in AP Mode

Being a WISP I have many years of experience with AP’s in Point-To-Multipoint conditions. Recently we’ve been trying the Mikrotik AP’s and I notice a lot when just ONE client is downloading steady at around 1-1.5Mb, it causes high ping times on all the rest of the clients. After months of trying many different settings/and changing equipment, my assumption was that we had a HUGE mixture of old client equipment connecting to this, and around 30-47 station count.

Here is my problem now. We just set up a NEW mikrotik AP on a mountain top tower, and with only 3 users on it, I’m seeing the same problem. A user that is streaming video at around 1000kbps/sec is having an effect on the 2 users (see pic). Any idea’s?

What are your wireless settings? Are you using Nstreme? Polling? RTS/CTS?

I can’t use Nstream because not ALL of our stations are Mikrotiks. Aside from that, I leave all the settings default. I do show that “Polling” is checked by default.

Well you can’t use the polling function unless nstreme is enabled. You are probably experiencing the hidden node problem. Search around the board for information on RTS/CTS.

So why have we only started having this problem when using Mikrotik? Our old AP’s (Tranzeo, Proxim) never seen this problem. Now I have to log into each client and fiddle with their RTS settings? It seems like a setting needs tweaked on the AP…

Some of our other AP’s have over 40 clients, I’m sure Mikrotik can handle them just as good as our other AP’s right? Is there any other settings you can think of that could need adjusted on the AP side?
