Wireless on CAPsMAN Slower when not using Datapath Local Forwarding

I have the RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT-US running RouterOS version 6.43.4. I have setup CAPsMAN on this device and enabled the local CAP. Currently, there are no other CAPs on the network. I have noticed some interesting behavior when testing using speed test to validate my network connectivity over WIFI. I am using the 5 GHz radio on the router to test maximum speeds. By default (without datapath local forwarding enabled) on CAPsMAN, my download speeds are about 30 Mbps. However, when I simply check local forwarding within datapath, the speeds jump to my max ISP supported speeds of 200 Mbps. Has anyone else experienced this problem before? Any ideas why the speed is significantly lower when local forwarding is NOT enabled? I do like the idea of all traffic following through the CAPsMAN, but am concerned that if I am seeing slower speeds now with one device that it will only get worse as more CAPs are added to the network. Thanks in advance for the help!

Without local forwarding a tunnel between the cap and capsman is created. Maybe there is limmited connectivity between the cap and capsman devices that is causing low speeds. Whats your network topology? Port speeds etc.

Thanks for the reply! To keep things simple (and troubleshoot this issue), I am only using the 1 MikroTik router. I am enabling the CAP on this router to join CAPsMAN which is running on the exact same device. Does that answer your question? That’s why i’m perplexed as to why it would be slower.

Are you using certificate? If so i ncase of non local forward it will encrypt passing data also that will affect performance. With local forward it will encrypt only managment data. Try setting certificate to none and see if that makes a difference

I haven’t setup certificate and have confirmed that the certificate settings in CAPsMAN are set to none.

FYI - I continue to try to find a solution, but I did find the following post. It seems this person is having the same problem. I would like the data to flow through the CAPsMAN controller, so I’m trying to find a solution. Any ideas? Is this a bug? Reminder - my CAP is running on the same hardware as the CAPsMAN.
