Wireless performance / connections

Hi all.

Here is a question. How does wireless throughput relate to the handling multiple connections abilities of the AP. I find in practice a smart bridges 802.11b ap can do around 5 mbps with good link. Problem I see is that the true throughput can not handle multiple connections. For example when a customer is downloading at 2 mbps using a download manager with multiple connections other users of the AP complain about bad speed authough there should really be more bandwidth spare in theory.

So my conclusion is that the AP cannot handle multiple connections downloads. Is that because the processor of the AP is slowingdown or is it just a technical limitation of wi-fi transmission?

In other words will a better AP (MT rb with sr2) do better or is the limitation the technology?
