Wireless Solution

Hi

So, I have a bit of land and I’m looking to gap the distance between a barn and an access road. There is no power beyond the barn, and there is no plan for power to go in. There is currently a mesh network in the house and the barn. The satellite unit (part of the mesh network) has multiple LAN ports. I’m looking for a Poe access point that is relatively weather tight. I was told the 60G AP was a good device to use. The only problem I see is it runs of 60hrz. I need something that uses 2.4hrz. Is there something Mikrotik makes that’s watertight or resisted, POE powered, and uses 2.4ghz for clients to connect to?

The barn is about 200 meters from the access road. Looking to put a camera out there. Yes, I’ve looked in LTE cameras. I’m not interested in the monthly fee.

Thank you

You want to put a camera a few hundred meters from the barn?

Will it be powered independently (let’s say solar panel + battery), right?

But you want to connect only the camera, don’t you?

So you don’t really need an AP, more like a point to point connection or wireless bridge, or if you prefer two very directional devices.

Since it is only a few hundred meters, two SXT’s (SXTsq Lite2) might be suitable:

At 200 meters… You are going to want to use 2 devices.

  1. To bridge the distance.
This is where you use the 60Ghz PtP.

  2. A wireless access points to serve the clients.
This is your out door wifi unit. That needs to be close to the client devices.

The camera radio is going to perform a lot better if it’s communicating with a nearby radio.

The the 60Ghz radio will be able to save airtime and bring the camera data across fast link.

cant you just buy a pair of powerline adapters since that camera will use some kind of electricity anyway?

Powerline adapters are s*it… And highly doubt they will work at 200 meters. Had them, never been happy with them…

Particularly when there is no power, nor line, as OP stated:

In that case they suck extra hard

LOL didn’t read that part.
mine works okay-ish at 80m between house and garage, about 40mbit, plenty enough for a camera and occasional music listening, devices not visible, no cables or roof mounts and no need for dedicated p2p. but that’s me.
