Wish: Rackmount poe

We use the rb750up for powering our sectors a lot now. This reduces power supplies and cabling a lot. It would help further if it would be rack mountable.
If poe can be integrated in CCR or 2011 installations will be even smarter.

If MT would adhere to the 802.1af standard for PoE, none of these little injectors would be required… A standard POE enabled switch and your hardware…

Seems MT found a nice way to make some extra money by forcing people to use non standard power requirements. Peeves me off to have to go and buy a different power supply depending on what equipment I use, and then I’m not even starting with the lack of a standard…

We use 19" Midspans for this. They are also available in 24V so you can power Ubnt and MT devices. Example: http://www.digital-loggers.com/poe24.html
Sure, they are more expensive than a couple of poe injectors but they also give you more control.

Just an idea…

Good Idea. But does need one extra device and one additional cable for each powered device.

Ideal would be one device at the Tower bottom where you plug in the Ethernetcables from the sectors
and the SFP from the backhaul. And only one power supply. As our Network gets older we get increasing
work replacing defect parts …
You open the cabinet and find yourself sorting the power supplies and poe-injectors …

Yes, you have more devices but on the other side it has the advantage that a lightning would rather kill your midspan (less or no config) than your router/switch. A damaged router/switch would usually need more time and knowledge to replace.
Some midspans also have a built-in surge protection such as gas discharge tubes.
