Hello all!
I am considering starting up a commercial Wisp using Mikrotik/Routerboards.
Although I have a fair share of experience running wireless networks I have yet no experience with MT.
A few keywords of my plans so far:
-Fiber (10Mb?) feed
-Backhaul links using RB532/SR5
-RB532 for APs (5GHz)
-RB112 for CPEs
-b/g hotspots for community access
-Rather rough climate/weather conditions.
-3-4 APs, possibly scaling to 30
-50-100 customers, possibly scaling to 1000
-A few corporate customers
-different bandwith classes
-POP running on solar/wind
Simulations in Radio Mobile shows that covering the area will be no problem.
Can anyone give me general suggestions/guidelines of how to implement this, or point me to websites where similar setups are described?
What is most important is:
-Scalability. The core components must be powerful enough to handle the addition of future backbone links and new APs
-Remote admin. Every part must be able to be remote surveyed and administered over the internet.
Will I need a primary gateway implemented on PC platform for doing the heavy routing/traffic shaping?
What about redundant backbone (OSPF), do you consider this as “mandatory”?
There are tons of info on MT here but a lot of it is digging directly into the fairly technical parts of the RouterOS, so for an initial overview I would be very thankful for any general guidelines or links.
