WLAN Tx-Power on demand, possible ?

Hello all!

Is it possible to set the wlan device to only increase Tx power on demand? I.e. if no client is connected and ssid is not sending, there shouldn’t be any transference to reduce inhouse radiation.

Right now the router is always sending on 2,4 Ghz - whether if a client connected or not…

This would be an innovative solution to reduce 2,4 Ghz radiation just if no client is connected to the router. As soon as a client trys to register (sending out connect info), router will start to send. Client should “enable” the wlan interface by opening a connection.

Thanks and with regards,
Juergen

hi dude..
if having the radiation concern, you should turn off the handphone in the first place.

if the AP would not transmit anything, clients wouldn’t see it. it must transmit beacons, to say “i’m here, my SSID is the following”

And you handsfree phone, your TV, your wireless baby-phone, your PC monitor, no heavy electricity users (high currents in wires produce radiation too) etc. etc. To have your house radiation free you have one switch… the main fuse in your fuse board.
Oh, don’t forget to put some metal foiling on walls and windows, radiation from outside still enters your house.. :astonished:

Sorry for the big delay. Checked around 3 days for replies but not after that time. And notification didn’t seemed to work…

I cannot follow you at all… if not sending SSID the client trys to send registration regardless if the network is found or not.
The router received that registration and could start sending / wake up / increase transmit power.

So wheres the problem? Why should we have radiation in our houses if no client is connected…

To comment your note about handsets: this already works like i wrote. Theres only radiation if a telephone call is active. If not - no radiation

completely wrong assumption. unless you live in the middle of the desert, things like TV signal still enter your house. People are walking nearby, and their signal enters your house. You are probably radiated by several devices that are not inside your house and not under your control.

The mobile phone DOES transmit when not functioning, when you get a call, it just amplifies the signal (ie. there is a burst of radiation, that’s why you also get a disturbance noise in the radio sometimes, only when your phone rings, not when you talk).

there are GPS signals, TV, radio, also any device that runs on electricity will radiate something

if not sending SSID the client trys to send registration regardless if the network is found or not.

this is not according to the wireless standards. we can’t implement such functionality without breaking the standard.

maybe it’s possible to do this with scripting. check activity in the registration table, it’s empty for 10 minutes, reduce TX Power of the card, when something connects, increase it.

This is a feature called ATPC we’re waiting for a
long time now.
It would help to fulfill some regulators wishes
and it would help to reduce interference.
With wimax-equipment we’ve a parameter at
the AP which RSSI-Level to reach. The CPE powers
down its power to reach this signal level at the AP.

ATPC still transmits, just with lower power. But it would help the OP a little.
