Would it be worth fitting a eg18 in a chateau LTE12 or should I get a chateau ax lte18 instead?

Guess it depend on your Wi-Fi needs… You happy with the LTE12’s Wi-Fi? Generally LTE speeds are well below 802.11ac speeds. But guess it’s possible “ax” be useful if you’re seeing hundreds+ Mb/s for LTE and/or have congested 5Ghz environment.

I think regardless you’d want to add pigtails+external antennas:

I’m very happy with the WiFi of the LTE12, as I’m in the United Kingdom, I set the 2.4 at 20mhz channel 13, and the 5 is at 80mhz channel 149.

Due to most residential UK isps using American configured WiFi equipment, there’s never anyone using these channels in my apartment block.

… which use channel 11. Which partially overlaps channel 13 (check it yourself). Adjacent channel interference can be even worse than co-channel traffic (from other wifi devices), so you might want to test if your current setup is actually better than if using channel 11.

And yes, it’s a royal pain that Europeans use American channel layout and thus missing opportunity to have 4 (almost) non-overlapping channels instead of 3.

Well Wi-Fi 6 be the main benefit from upgrade to the newer Chateau, vs.just upgrading the modem in your existing one.

Now if the goal is improve stability/speed of LTE WAN, using all external antennas I just think help more than a newer modem with the built-in antennas.
