Yesterday I reset all my six SXT5s after a major reconfig.
At 15:28 UTC (pretty positive this was the actual time) I got this log entry from only one of the six radios:
Mar 28 15:36:41 radio1.xxxxxxx.xxx cloud change time Mar/28/2017-15:34:55 => Mar/28/2017-15:36:41
Why this eight minute shift ahead? I just checked: here and now the system clock is still eight minutes ahead after some 24 hours.
Where is the SXT picking the time from?
How can I set a different time-server (since I’ve one running inside the company LAN)?
I found the same thing. Go in IP → CLOUD and uncheck the time sync there. Just use regular (s)ntp and adjust the system clock for the time zone. Should be ok.
Do no use it to replace NTP. The Cloud time is only there to apply rough time upon first boot, when there is no better time source configured. For most home users that just plug in a new router into their ISP.
A suggestion to Mikrotik staff (no polemic or controversial intentions):
CLOUD submenu label… sounds a lot marketing, but quite misleading…
I expect most of your clients to be seasoned networking professionals.
I don’t know if it’s just me… but I did not expect to find “time sync” (and DDNS) in “CLOUD”.
To me CLOUD is a very different thing – whatever that “thing” is
