x86 release to be 64 bit?

So just a quick question on this Mikrotik peeps. I know there was a discussion in regards to the 64 bit version of the code. I see that the TILE architecture is set to be 64 bit. Is the same opportunity going to occur on x86? It makes more sense for those routers to be 64 bit even more than the Tilera chips.

Just curious that’s all…

right now we are not working on it, but maybe in the future.

Along with x86_64 would hopefully be the ability to unlock more than 2GB of memory which sure would be helpful with KVM on x86 hardware. I understand it’s not a virtualization platform, but we could use more memory which would allow us to spread out our authoritative DNS servers and cache our offsite RADIUS server locally within the network. Is there any word on at least opening up to 3.5GB of RAM? My systems have already been deployed with 8GB of RAM, so I am ready when the software is.

Linux/toolchain not grow on trees and evolving/back-porting stuff into ancient treee wasn’t economically easy even for intel or Apple.
combine that with [noticeable]dissolve/moving of contributors/maintainers from x86/32bit-critical things - matter ot time.
its eventual. but far away[years, not months]
they got point in answer above. limited HRM/time resource and clear priorities[RouterBoards/Stations] don’t make this [not free]goodies important for business.
i guess if some[medium-sized/big companies?] consumers can/want invest/patricipate in such development/porting/adaptation/testing - probably they can discuss that. unless/until project become partially crowdsourced/community-driven, just like Linux itself, for example ;]

basically i suppose not “us”, but some people[really wanted to understand], already read/understood that.
its/Subj matter of time. not so close, because MikroTik prioritized on hardware sales. when/if company grow and/or some partners emerged - something change.

You know that this is not good news.

I asked about that some time ago.

I asked during the US MUM about this, and the answer was along these lines:
The Tilera cpu only supports 64bit, thats why the tile release is 64bit. Other releases will be kept 32bit.

logically question is" Does Pro.Aptiv cores include 64-Bit chips from Atheros in future ?"
so its matter of time, i suppose.
hope not far in Atheros case[of Pro-Aptiv adoption].
